Clear your debt before cancelling visa

“Expatriates must not have any unpaid fines, or any police cases against them in order to be able to cancel their visa to leave the country or to get a new visa here,” Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director-General of Dubai Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department in Dubai (GDRFA), told Gulf News.

He said this applied all over the country. According to new rules implemented by the Ministry of Interior late last year the rules will be expanded to cover all financial commitments by expatriates. “We have linked procedures to cancel visas for expatriates with the payment of all their road fines.”

The computer systems of the traffic police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) have already been linked to all Residency and Foreigners Affairs Departments in the UAE.

British Passport application service on line – U.A.E. changes changes

This is the text of a recent letter from :

From 29th January 2014 British nationals living in the UAE will now apply for their full validity passports on line. Information on how to apply is available from the Passport Office on: https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports Contact Passport Advice Line on: +44 300 222 0000
or by email: overseasNewportCCC@hmpo.gsi.gov.uk

Applicants will need to complete the application form online and will be able to chart the progress of the application from start to finish. The system will guide applicants through a series of screens relevant to their own personal circumstances providing a streamlined, automated passport application process, fully integrated with the passport office system. Payment must also be made online.

The online application will generate a personalised declaration pack which the applicant must print off and sign. This provides the following information to the applicant:
details of the supporting documents they must provide
photo requirements
guidance regarding counter signatory requirements – if required to support the application
the physical declaration form which the applicant and (if required) the counter signatory
must sign and detail of where to send the declaration form, supporting docs and photographs

Benefits will include:
An improved online process for all applicants
Processing times will remain the same and application will be subject to the standard service Multiple applications can be submitted, up to eight different applications can be processed in a single online payment

The system will generate a user name and password and applicants will use this to return to their application, within 72 hours

Construction Software – Dubai, Synergy Software Systems

We have implemented construction solutions for both local and international companies for over 15 years. We were early pioneers of 5D BIM adoption in the region.

However there are challenges with most solutions. Traditional design processes and layout documents do not easily sit with erp systems. Construction projects do not easily sit in a PSA accounts module. Most erp systems do not understand the concept of measurement books, or a cost to complete process. Construction formulas for costing a trench or a wall do not sit easily in a BOM. A BOQ and a WBS need a different understanding than a BOM and a route. Manufacturing sub contract is much like a purchase order with supply of some components. a construction sub contract order is a self contained order with its own contract, project BOQ, and WBS, measurements, applications, approvals, staged payments, advances, retentions etc.

Implementation time that is longer than the life of a project is also difficult for construction companies. All too often there are just too many complex integration is needed because a solution only addresses one part of the business.

We have seen many solutions and erp add-ons, and found there is generally a mismatch between the market needs and what solutions can offer, especially for the mid-market contractor. We are now able to offer a purpose designed construction erp system which we presented at Gitex last year and is now getting a lot of interest in this region.
Our applications interact with several third party applications like AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, MS project and so on. AEC Apps are competent in converting 2D drawings to 3D models on Auto CAD platform.

CRM 2013 some less well known features

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 Language Packs contain translated text, such as labels, error messages, and Help. This lets you view Microsoft Dynamics CRM in a language other than the base language.

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 List component for SharePoint makes available to you the Microsoft Dynamics CRM documents that are stored on SharePoint in a format that has the look and feel of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Power map for Excel

In Office Service Pack 1,Power Map isnative to Excel. No longer a preview add-in, Power Map can now be found on the “Insert” tab in Excel for Office 365 ProPlus customers.

Subscription customers will have access to all the new and upcoming features of Power Map, from new types of data visualizations on the Bing map, to new 3-D analysis features, to new ways of storytelling with your “tours”.

Remove admin rights and prevent >90% + of your security problems

Avecto a market leading privilege management firm analyzed data from security bulletins issued by Microsoft throughout 2013. it concldued that:

– 92% of all vulnerabilities reported by Microsoft with a critical severity rating can be mitigated by removing admin rights,
the same goes for:
– 96% of critical vulnerabilities affecting Windows operating systems, – – – 91% critical vulnerabilities affecting Microsoft Office
– 100% of vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer.

When malware infects a user with admin rights, it can cause incredible damage locally, as well as on a wider network.

Employees with admin rights have access to install, modify and delete software and files and to change system settings.

Paul Kenyon, co-founder and EVP of Avecto said: “It’s astounding just how many vulnerabilities can be overcome by the removal of admin rights. “

Apple bug -as bad as it gets

Apple acknowledged has a major security flaw in its software for mobile devices and most users aren’t aware of just how at risk they might be if they fail to update their software. Mac computers could be even more exposed to attacks.

A Secure Socket Layer (SSL) vulnerability allowing hackers to intercept information that is supposed to encrypted. If an attacker hsd access to the same network over an unsecured WiFi connection then he could impersonate a protected site such as Facebook or Gmail and alter any data passed between the iPhone and the site.

Johns Hopkins University cryptography professor Matthew Green summarized it succinctly to Reuters: “It’s as bad as you could imagine, that’s all I can say.”

Synergy Software Systems Customer alert – SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 -critical upgrade

There is a known issue with SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 . If you have installed Service Pack 1 not part of a slipstream install, then the registry on your SQL server could reach the 2GB limit and crash your SQL Server.

To avoid this issue for Dynamics products it is highly recommended to install at least Service Pack 1 Cumulative Update 5 for SQL Server 2012 or above because this version addresses some other issues that impact Dynamics.

SQL Service Pack 1 Cumulative Update 6 is the current release.

For those Dynamics customers on SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 or above, AX Cumulative Update 7 is released

I’ve personally seen this at customers with AX 2009 and AX2012.

You can run this query to test for the issue:
